Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been linked with a strange move to Turkey.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will snub Besiktas to stay at Ibrox, according to his former Liverpool teammate Patrik Berger.
Gerrard played in the Rangers Legends v Liverpool Legends charity game on Saturday afternoon, playing for Liverpool in the first half and Rangers in the second.
The Ibrox faithful loved seeing Gerrard in action, both with a host of former Rangers players and some of his old Liverpool teammates.
Czech ace Berger was one of those, as the former midfielder featured in the Liverpool Legends side before turning his attention to a rumour about Gerrard.
BeIN Sport claimed over the weekend that Besiktas had targeted Gerrard as their new manager, with current boss Abdullah Avci under real pressure.
It seems unlikely that Gerrard will be leaving Ibrox any time soon, especially as he’s likely to be in contention for the Liverpool job whenever that becomes available.
Now, Berger has told The Scottish Sun that he feels that a move to Turkey wouldn’t be of any benefit for Gerrard, believing that Rangers is the right place for him as he works towards becoming Liverpool manager one day in the future.
“I think Steven is already in a massive job here,” said Berger. “I don’t think going to Turkey would give him any extra edge or anything better. This is the right place for him. He wouldn’t go there. I don’t know for sure, but in my opinion he is working towards his goal to be Liverpool manager one day. But Rangers is still one of the biggest clubs in Europe, so it is fantastic as a learning curve for him,” he added.
