Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Nice right-back Youcef Atal, The Telegraph report.

Atal is rated at £34 million, and signing him would be a sign that Spurs are ready to move on from Kieran Trippier.

Managing to persuade Nice to let him go will not be easy.

Nice manager Patrick Vieira spoke just this week of his determination to keep Atal put.

The ex-Arsenal star told the club website: “We are not sellers. Youcef will be here next year.

“Youcef is improving. He works a lot. If you look at his goals, you see the aggression he has to be in the right place to score.

“He is a positive character with good spirit. He was rewarded for his efforts. The team allowed him to express himself and to show his talent.

“We were good in possession and that allowed us to be dangerous. What Atal has over the others is his desire to get into the box.”

It’s safe to say that selling Atal to Tottenham is not among Vieira’s intentions. Chelsea are also claimed to be interested by The Telegraph.

He sees the 22-year-old as a key part of Nice’s future, and Spurs may have to look elsewhere.

New York City FC head coach Patrick Vieira speaks at an interview with AFP during the club's annual media day on March 9, 2017, in New York.
