Patrick Vieira is reportedly a Newcastle United managerial candidate.

Reported Newcastle United managerial candidate Patrick Vieira has said that he does not plan to leave Nice this summer, as quoted in The Sun.

According to The Sun, Newcastle have Arsenal legend Vieira on their shortlist of managers to replace Rafael Benitez.

The Premier League club and Benitez parted company at the end of last month following the end of the Spaniard’s contract.

Vieira is in charge of Nice at the moment, and the Frenchman has said that he does not plan to leave the Ligue 1 outfit.

The Sun quotes Vieira as saying: “I am at Nice long-term. I have no intention of going elsewhere. I’ve always felt good here and with the people around me. I can’t see myself anywhere other than Nice.”

Moving on

Vieira seems to be keen on staying at Nice, and Newcastle should move on instead of making a move for the Arsenal legend.

According to The Sun, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe and Mikel Arteta are the other managerial candidates at Newcastle.

It is hard to see Liverpool legend Gerrard leave his current role at Rangers, while Howe seems settled at Bournemouth.

Newcastle could struggle for survival in the Premier League next season without Benitez.
