Should Celtic take an interest in the soon-to-be free agent?

If he wasn’t already, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will definitely be in the market for a right-wing option now.

Patrick Roberts, on loan at Celtic from Manchester City, ruled out the possibility of staying in Parkhead for a third spell last week [Sky Sports], meaning that Rodgers will need to replace him.

One man who could and should interest the Hoops boss is Arsenal winger Joel Campbell.

The 25-year-old is likely to leave the Gunners on a free transfer this summer, having spent most of his seven-year stint in North London out on loan on six different occasions.

Nevertheless, the Costa Rica winger, an unused sub in Real Betis’ last three games, is heading to the World Cup this summer and that’s why Celtic need to act fast.

Campbell hugely enhanced his reputation at the World Cup in 2014 and if he does so again then he will have no shortage of offers, and Rodgers could be blown out of the water.

His career has nosedived in a big way, but he did have a very impressive spell in Arsenal’s first XI for a while and if the Northern Irishman can draw the same level of performances from Campbell as Arsene Wenger did then he could be a star in the Scottish Premiership.

Campbell, who already has 70 caps for his country, was worth £8 million two years ago according to Transfermarkt. He will get snapped up, despite a rough couple of years, and the Bhoys should make sure they ask the question before the World Cup.

Otherwise it might be too late.
