Patrick Roberts has told Celtic’s official website that he wants to repay Brendan Rodgers during his time at Parkhead.

Rodgers inherited Roberts as part of the Celtic squad that Ronny Deila left him with, but the winger has improved considerably under the Northern Irish boss’s guidance.

Roberts stood out in a Celtic shirt last season, and Rodgers pushed hard to bring him back on loan from Manchester City again this time around.

Roberts now says that he feels indebted to Rodgers, as the Celtic boss has shown so much faith in him.

“The manager knows what I bring, he knows the type of play I am and that’s why he’s brought me to the club,” Rodgers said.

“He puts a lot of trust in me at such a young age and I strive to repay that. He’s been good ever since he came here and I can only get better for him.

“I haven’t set myself any specific targets. I just want to keep improving as a player and to win as many games as I can, and stages like the Champions League play a big part in that.”

Roberts actually hasn’t started this season in the same form he finished his last spell at Celtic.

The youngster has perhaps not reached his dazzling best yet, but he has still played an important role.

Roberts scored for Celtic in their Champions League triumph over Anderlecht just before the international break, and he is generally considered to be part of the Bhoys’ strongest starting line-up.

Celtic are next in action after the international break, when they take on Dundee.
