Patrick Roberts has admitted to the Herald Scotland that it will be hard for him to be a Celtic player next season.

Roberts has spent the last 18 months in Glasgow, but his loan spell from Manchester City is due to expire at the end of the campaign.

The 20-year-old is wanted by Celtic this summer, with Brendan Rodgers lining up another loan bid.

And Roberts admits that the move could tempt him, as Celtic fans have taking to him so much.

“Could I stay?” he said. “It’s hard. But one thing my mum has always said is that you want to be adored by fans and I’ve always wanted to get people off their seats, that’s what I enjoy, putting on a show. It is great to hear the fans sing my name and to feel that love is something I could only dream about.

“If you go to a place and you don’t get that love, and every footballer will tell you this, it can be difficult and times can get tough,” he added. “The love you get here at Celtic is second to none. You won’t get this at most places. I am enjoying being here, and the admiration they have given me means I just want to play well for them and make them happy on Saturday.”

Roberts is highly regarded at Manchester City, but it remains difficult to see him breaking into Pep Guardiola’s side.

City are said to want to loan Roberts to a Premier League side, which could be a blow for Celtic.

Roberts has been in impressive form for the Bhoys this season (Daily Mail), scoring nine goals and claiming 14 assists in 32 league appearances.

Roberts last match for Celtic could come at the weekend, with Rodgers’ side scheduled to play in the cup final against Aberdeen.
