Patrick Mahomes’ impact on the Kansas City Chiefs is being felt far beyond the current roster, with franchise legend Christian Okoye revealing how the quarterback has helped boost his post-NFL earnings.
The Chiefs’ sustained success in recent years has elevated the entire brand of the franchise.
And for former players like Okoye, that resurgence is now translating into unexpected financial opportunities decades after retirement.

Patrick Mahomes’ influence drove Christian Okoye’s earnings
Speaking in a recent interview shared via One54 Africa, former Chiefs running back Christian Okoye explained how the team’s modern success has directly impacted his income.
“I’ve made more money after retirement than I did when I was playing. And I have to tell you this, the money has come since Mahomes came to the Chiefs.
“You know what I’m saying? Yeah. So, because of their success. I’m being included, and I love it,” Okoye said.
Okoye, who retired from the NFL in 1992, was one of the most dominant players of his era, earning the nickname “The Nigerian Nightmare.”
But even with his on-field achievements, it is the current Chiefs dynasty, led by Mahomes, that has reignited his visibility.
Christian Okoye benefits from the Chiefs’ success in the new era
The ripple effect of Kansas City’s recent dominance has created fresh demand for former players tied to the franchise’s history.
“I love it [Chiefs’ success] because I get called and asked, ‘Hey, Christian, do you mind doing this? We’ll pay you this much.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, I’ll be there,'” Okoye added.
Appearances, events, and brand-related opportunities have become more frequent as the Chiefs remain one of the NFL’s most relevant teams.
That increased exposure has effectively extended Okoye’s career value, linking his legacy to the modern success of the organization.
Mahomes’ influence continues to reshape the Chiefs’ identity, and in doing so, he is also creating lasting benefits for those who helped build the franchise long before his arrival.
