Barcelona legend Patrick Kluivert played for Newcastle United during the mid-noughties.

Patrick Kluivert has admitted that he wouldn’t want to play in this current Newcastle United team because they are ‘very defensive’ and he prefers his side’s to be ‘more offensive’.
Rafa Benitez’s side recorded a 1-1 draw at Wolves on Monday night, with the away team conceding a last-minute goal after goalkeeper Martin Dubravka failed to collect the ball following a cross.
Dutch legend Kluivert, who played for the North East club during the mid-noughties, was a guest for Sky Sports for their Monday Night Football coverage.
The former striker was asked a number of questions regarding Newcastle’s style of play and what could be holding them back from being more offensive.
“I hope they can play a little more offensively, I doubt it,” Kluivert told Sky Sports News on 11/02/2019. “I saw the game against Tottenham, it’s not that attractive football. Very defensive.
Then he was asked whether he would have liked to have played in this team: “Well, I would have liked to have played in offensive-minded teams. This is not really an offensive team.
On whether a lack of funds stops them from being offensive: “I can understand that maybe they don’t have the force for offensive play, but you need to play a little bit more offensive to score goals.”

Newcastle’s performance at Molineux was a typical display that they have showcased under Benitez since their promotion to the Premier League last season.
There is no doubt that they could be playing more offensive football as the season draws to a close because they now have new signing Miguel Almiron in their ranks.
The highly-rated playmaker moved to St James’ Park on deadline day and he made his debut against Wolves after being brought on as a second-half substitute.
During his brief time on the pitch, he showcased his raw pace, directness, energy and willingness to run with the ball as he will be looking to prove his worth in the next few months.
