Speaking on the Official Leeds United Podcast, Patrick Bamford has been full of praise for Illan Meslier.
The French goalkeeper is yet to keep a clean sheet this season, but he’s once again been proving his ability between the sticks for Leeds.
The Whites play in a way that leaves them vulnerable at the back, meaning that Meslier has a lot of work to get through. However, he very rarely fails to turn up when he’s been needed.
What’s been said?
Bamford was speaking about the game against West Ham, singling Meslier out for special praise.
“This year, partly I think we haven’t had a full team which hasn’t helped, and teams know what they’re going to get from us, and that means we have to be bang on it all the time, we can’t make a single mistake. Fortunately, one thing we did learn on Saturday was that Illan is unbelievable, even though we were good in the first-half, they could have had three or four and he showed that he’s there to bail us out, which I think is important as well,” Bamford said.”

Leeds’ saviour
Leeds are yet to win a game in the Premier Legaue thus far this season, but if they didn’t have Meslier between the sticks, they may not have even had a point.
The Frenchman has saved Leeds’ skin on numerous occasions. He notably stopped a number of great efforts from Allan Saint-Maximin against Newcastle, while he also put in a stellar display against Everton.
Leeds need to start winning games sooner rather than later, and if the Whites are to start picking up victories, Meslier will have to keep this level of form up.
