Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford has been criticised recently.

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has told LUTV that he isn’t really affected by fan criticism having come in for a battering before facing Preston North End.

The Whites are back in action today, continuing their push for promotion as they host Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road in another crucial clash.

The 2-0 midweek win over Preston has taken Leeds back up into the automatic promotion spots, ahead of Sheffield United, with the two teams swapping places regularly.

Leeds’ hero at Preston was striker Bamford, as he scored both goals in the win. His first was an arrowing strike with his left foot, with his second a well-placed header.

Bamford really needed that after a couple of disappointing games. He missed a number of chances in the defeat at Birmingham City last weekend, and struggled against Millwall before that, missing a penalty in the 3-2 win.

Bamford really needed to hit the goal trail again with Kemar Roofe back in action, and he did just that in a fine performance against Preston, providing renewed form ahead of today’s Yorkshire derby.

Bamford has now acknowledged the fan criticism of late, but claims it doesn’t affect him as he simply keeps shooting, believing the next one will go in, even if he shares the frustration of the fans when he doesn’t score.

“I’ve taken quite a bit of stick in the last few games,” said Bamford. “I know there was a game where I didn’t play brilliant, but I just kept working, kept doing the same things I’ve been doing that have got me to where I am. I think the more you miss, makes it more likely that the next one is gonna go in, so if I keep shooting, I’m gonna score.”

“To be honest, it doesn’t really affect me. Sometimes I actually laugh at it, thinking ‘God, imagine if it was vice versa’! I can feel the fan frustration, because I was a fan once at Forest and I’m sure I’ve given players a fair bit of stick from the stands. I knew that eventually it would go in, and they have the right to be frustrated because the games are so important, and I was frustrated as well personally, not scoring,” he added.
