Patrick Bamford has said to Sky Sports that both Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson would deserve a call-up to the England squad.
Leeds United striker Bamford appears to be in competition with the like of Watkins, Wilson and Danny Ings for a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad at Euro 2020.
And Bamford insists that whoever makes it into the team would deserve it at this stage, as they are all enjoying such excellent seasons.
“There’s a lot of English strikers in the Premier League this season who have maybe not been involved in the England squad before. Is that something you look at yourself and think one of us could make a late push. I’m thinking of maybe Callum Wilson, Danny Ings, Ollie Watkins. Is that something you look at,” Carragher asked on Monday Night Football.
And Bamford responded: “If you’d said that at the start of the season I’d have brushed it off and said you’re mad but I think now people talk about it and it’s good if you’re getting talked about but as you’ve said there are four or five strikers who haven’t really been involved with England before a lot of times and they’re all doing really well.
“It’s going to be interesting to see who does get called up and I think whoever does get calls up fully deserves it, whether it’s me or any of the others.”
Villa man Watkins is arguably the striker out of the quartet who is in the best form currently.

Watkins has hit four goals in his last five games, but it is Bamford who has scored the most frequently over the campaign in total.
The Leeds striker has 12 goals to his name, while Wilson and Watkins have 10, and Ings has seven.
Ings and Wilson do have an advantage as they are known to Southgate, having been in England squads before, but both Bamford and Watkins must surely be in contention to be involved with the Three Lions when they are next in action next month.
