Paul Merson has said on Sky Sports News (12:46pm, December 4, 2021) that Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa should include Patrick Bamford in the starting lineup against Brentford at Elland Road.

Leeds will take on Brentford at home in the Premier League on Sunday.

Ahead of the match, Leeds head coach Bielsa said that Bamford is fit and available.

The England international striker has been struggling with injuries in recent weeks.

And former Arsenal star Merson believes that Bielsa should include Bamford in the starting lineup for Leeds today.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that Luke Ayling should also start, despite the defender having also recently recovered from injury.

Merson said on Sky Sports News (12:46pm, December 4, 2021): “In this day and age, it’s not like you are getting kicked from pillar to post.”

The Englishman added: “I would play Bamford in this game. I would play both of them. I think this is a must-win game.”

Should Patrick Bamford start for Leeds?

We can understand why Bielsa could be tempted to include Bamford in the Leeds starting lineup today.

Yes, Leeds won against Crystal Palace last time out, but it is no secret that they are not scoring enough goals.

The West Yorkshire club have scored just 13 goals in 14 Premier League games so far this season.

However, in our opinion, Bielsa needs to think carefully before including Bamford in the starting lineup.

Yes, the striker, who earns £74,000 per week (Salary Sport), played in an Under-23s game recently, but is that enough match practice?
