Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has hinted that he could look to utilise two strikers this season.
Leeds forward Bamford has played a long role up top for much of the season so far.
“According to the opponent and what they are doing, we may go with two strikers,” Bielsa said.
“They mix well. One is right-footed and the other left. Down the sides. Can play one in front and one in behind. They can make the link and make movements.”
Bielsa still hasn’t made the switch to a system which would see both Bamford and Nketiah start.
However, Bamford has suggested that he would be more than grateful for the extra support up-front at Elland Road.
“I think so,” Bamford said, when asked if he could play with Nketiah.
“He’s played across, I think before he came here, he’s played across the whole front three so he’s not just a striker.
“He can play number nine, number seven, number 11.
“I think the only time we’ve really played together was Brentford, when he came on and scored, but I think that whole game – one striker against three centre-backs – makes it difficult.”
Bamford has four goals to his name so far this season, while Nketiah has three already.
Nketiah’s total is highly impressive as he is still yet to make a start for Leeds in the Championship.
Nketiah is seriously pushing for a place in Bielsa’s line-up now, and it surely won’t be too long before he makes the breakthrough.
If Leeds can work out a tactic which sees Nketiah and Bamford featuring together then they could do serious damage as a duo.
The Whites would carry a much increased goal threat with the pair in attack, and that could be crucial to Bielsa’s side.
Leeds missed out on promotion last term because they didn’t take enough of their chances, but with Nketiah and Bamford in the team they would surely become more clinical.
