Patrick Bamford says he and his Leeds team-mates won’t be fully fit for weeks after their curtailed pre-season.

Bamford has scored in both Premier League matches so far, against Liverpool and Fulham.

He has also admitted to the Yorkshire Evening Post he was blowing in the first half of both those matches.

“It is hard. We only really had two pre-season games and so I do not think that everyone is up to full speed yet,” said Bamford.

“Give it five matches we will probably be in the flow of it and get a little bit more settled, I would say.

“I, for one – in the first 20 minutes this weekend and last weekend – was really blowing, so hopefully it is something we just adjust to.”

Leeds’ high-tempo style isn’t especially conducive to a reduced pre-season, but they have still started their Premier League campaign in some style.

You wouldn’t notice Bamford was struggling early on in the matches he’s scored in and they’ve gone toe-to-toe with opponents.

Perhaps the late concessions against Liverpool and Fulham are a sign that Bamford is right, Leeds need another three league games to be really at top speed.

They’re not doing too badly so far though, and face a Sheffield United side yet to score a league goal this season on Sunday. Leeds have seven already.
