Patrick Bamford has told LUTV that the support from the Leeds fans was the one aspect from the Whites’ previous encounter with his former side Middlesbrough that stuck in his mind after he became Marcelo Bielsa’s fifth signing of the summer on Tuesday.

As reported by BBC Sport, Bamford has made the switch to Elland Road in a deal that could be worth £10 million. And the 24-year-old will certainly be hoping that he can show the kind of form that left the Leeds fans with little reason to smile during their most recent visit to the Riverside Stadium.

The former Chelsea ace scored a hat-trick as Leeds lost 3-0 back in March. It proved to be the high point in the season for Bamford personally, but he suggested that his abiding memory from the game came from the away end of the ground.

“I remembered Leeds from last season when we played at the Riverside. Their away fans, you know sometimes random things just stick in your mind, their following and the noise they made even though we beat them that day, and that stuck with me and obviously, it’s great to be a part of such a big club,” he told LUTV.

Bamford will be desperately hoping that his form during the early stages of his spell will see him quickly get the supporters on side. There is a lot of pressure on the forward’s shoulders due to the size of the fee and arguably because of the lack of striker options in Bielsa’s squad.

But his lethal run towards the end of last season hints that he could prove to be a fantastic signing for the Whites, and the fans will undoubtedly take to him straight away if he can help Bielsa’s men get off to a flyer when they face Stoke City in their Championship curtain-raiser on Sunday.
