Middlesbrough striker Patrick Bamford has been reflecting on his eventful career so far which has seen him play for seven teams since quitting Nottingham Forest in 2012.

Then a teenager, Bamford is still only 23 and the majority of his moves have been loans.

He left Forest for Chelsea and insists he has no regrets.

Despite being happy with his choice to leave Nottingham Forest, he admits now that he had second thoughts about departing at the time.

Speaking to The League Paper, Bamford said: “Would I join Chelsea if I had the chance again? Oh, 100 per cent. I remember the day I went down. I took the medical, discussed the move. Afterwards, I spoke to my dad and said ‘Look, I think I’d rather stay at Forest’. I was just so nervous.

“But my dad said ‘You don’t know if this chance will ever come around again. Once you get to the top, it’s easy to drop down’. That’s how it’s worked out.”

Bamford won the Championship Player of the Year award while on loan at Middlesbrough in 2015 after scoring 17 goals.

He hoped this would be a springboard to the Chelsea first team but he went out on loan to three different Premier League teams and each spell was disappointing and he is still without a top flight goal to his name.

He rejoined Middlesbrough permanently in January and is in new manager Garry Monk’s plans, playing up front with another Nottingham Forest old boy, prolific striker Britt Assombalonga.
