Patrice Evra suggested that Tottenham Hotspur’s fullbacks wear ‘headphones’ because of Antonio Conte’s constant screaming on the touchline, as he told Amazon Prime Sport (19/10/22 at 9:15 pm).

This stems from the Tottenham boss having a war-of-words with midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur during their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night – at one point of the game, the duo were screaming at each other as the match was in full flow.

It seems as though the highly-demanding Italian wasn’t happy with Bentancur for losing the ball, Conte made his feelings clear and the former Juventus man wasn’t shy to throw a few words back at his manager.

For neutrals, it was entertaining viewing, but another sign of how Conte’s blood can boil pretty quickly out on that touchline.

And given that Spurs were getting torn apart by Erik ten Hag’s free-flowing and ever-progressing side, he had every right to be annoyed.

Nonetheless, Evra joked ‘pray for Bentancur’ when footage emerged of the midfielder and his manager going at each other.

The former left-back hilariously advised those playing at full-back, on Conte’s side of the touchline, to wear headphones, as he shared that he was in a similar situation with Max Allegri at Juventus.

“But Conte is a coach and he’s in your ear like all the game, especially when you play as a fullback, then good luck” said Evra. “You should play with headphones because he’s going to be on you every time.

“I remember when I was even at Juventus and Max Allegri was the same. At one moment I say ‘do you want a remote? You aren’t playing Playstation here. You don’t have to tell me left and right’.

“Sometimes it’s not easy, especially for us fullbacks because we are close to the touchline, so hashtag pray for Bentancur.”

ENTERTAINMENT OFF THE PITCH AT LEAST

If fans are complaining or questioning the lack of bite and forward-thinking nature of Spurs under Conte out on the pitch, at least there is some form of entertainment off it.

That’s Conte’s way, he will never change, and it’s that type of mindset and aggression that has got the north London club to where they are today.

Many would probably agree that if Nuno Espirito Santo had stayed on as manager, then they probably would have struggled to make Europe, never mind the Champions League.
