West Ham United have snapped up defender Patrice Evra on a free transfer.
West Ham United have this afternoon confirmed the arrival of left back Patrice Evra – and he has told the club’s official website that he had a ‘nice meeting’ with his former boss David Moyes.
The Hammers ended the January transfer window with two new signings, as midfielder Joao Mario and striker Jordan Hugill arrived from Inter Milan and Preston North End respectively, leaving fans a little underwhelmed.
The transfer window may have closed a week ago, but that hasn’t stopped West Ham from making another new signing this afternoon, as Moyes has turned to the free agent market.
With Arthur Masuaku suspended and Aaron Cresswell adapting to a different role under Moyes, West Ham felt that they need further cover at left back, and they have today brought in Patrice Evra.
Evra, 36, has been a free agent since being released by Marseille in November 2017, and has now penned a deal with West Ham until the end of the season, bolstering Moyes’ defensive options.
The Frenchman is something of a Premier League hero after spending more than eight years with Manchester United, where he won five Premier League titles and one Champions League, whilst he also worked with Hammers boss David Moyes at Old Trafford.
Now, Evra has told the club’s official website that the move happened really fast, and he reunited with Moyes after a ‘nice meeting’ with his former manager, claiming the move was ‘really easy’.
Evra suggested that he isn’t joining West Ham for the money, adding that it was the fastest thing he has done in his life as all parties wanted the deal to go through.
“It happened really fast. My agent called me and told me I needed to come back [from Dubai] to London as quick as I could and I had a nice meeting with the manager, who I know from Manchester United, of course, and I met the Chairman, so it was really easy,” said Evra.
“When you have to make a deal and money is not the issue, the deal could be done in five minutes. The main thing was for me to join West Ham and to help my teammates to win as many games as we can. It was the fastest thing I have done in my life, because both parties wanted to work together, so it was very easy to make an agreement!” he added.
