Dani Ceballos has responded to Piers Morgan on Twitter as the controversial TV presenter continued in his public criticism of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta – following Monday’s 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace.

Arteta watched on as his Arsenal side suffered a blip in the race for fourth place and Champions League qualification. With Tottenham overtaking the Gunners, Arsenal failed to repay the favour – Palace taking advantage.

Arsenal fan Morgan has made no secret of his frustration at the club deciding to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in recent weeks. Especially, with Aubameyang making a superb start to life at Camp Nou.

The 32-year-old has scored nine goals in 12 games – including a hat-trick against Valencia, and then a brace in a 4-0 El Clasico win over Real Madrid. Morgan vented his frustration once again at Arteta, on Twitter.

While Aubameyang is on fire at Barcelona, it is plain and simple that the Arsenal system under Arteta did not suit the striker – a system which has given Arsenal a real chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

The system is working and Arteta deserves praise. Not many expected the Gunners to be anywhere near the top four this season – even fifth would be a decent achievement, following last season’s eighth-placed finish.

Ceballos, who spent two seasons on loan at Arsenal in 2019-20 and 2020-21, leapt to the defence of his former manager Arteta on Twitter – replying to Morgan and urging him to have “patience” on the £96k-a-week (Goal) gaffer.

His Tweet is translated as: “Friend let him work, he is the very top. He will also take Arsenal to where it deserves to be. Patience.”
