Rangers fans have taken to Twitter in disbelief after hearing what Steven Gerrard said about commitment, after filling the Aston Villa vacancy.
What’s the story?
Well, Gerrard left Ibrox suddenly to replace Dean Smith at Villa Park, just 13 games into the Scottish Premiership campaign.
His Rangers side were also four points clear at the top.
Speaking to VillaTV about his decision, Gerrard was keen to stress that he’s someone who is “all in” once he’s committed to something – hmmm.
The 41-year-old said: “One thing I can guarantee the supporters, the players and the staff here – when I commit to something, I’m all in.”
Now, we don’t need to explain why these comments are pure nonsense.
Abandoning a club you’re contracted to until 2024 in the middle of the season doesn’t exactly scream commitment to us.
We, and many others, understand why Gerrard took the reins at Aston Villa.
However, he doesn’t need to tarnish his Rangers legacy anymore with ridiculous soundbites such as this.
Steven Gerrard should’ve seen out the season with Rangers

Over the summer, 90min revealed that Gerrard was on Tottenham’s radar after winning the Scottish Premiership title.
In that respect, his work in Scotland was clearly being taken quite seriously in the Premier League, and opportunities were sure to follow as one now has.
In our view, it’s for that reason that Gerrard should’ve seen out the campaign with Rangers.
It feels unlikely that the Aston Villa job would be the only opportunity for Gerrard, given the frequency of managerial sackings in Premier League.

In fact, had he bided his time a bit more, perhaps an ever better opportunity may have arisen.
Now, he’s just tarnished his reputation in Glasgow, and is making things even worse with crazy comments like the one above.
For now, let’s see what the Rangers fans on Twitter have been saying about his remark…
