Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter in anger after hearing about BT Sport’s advert previewing the Champions League final.
As The Athletic’s Manchester City correspondent Sam Lee tweeted, BT Sport have just shown footage of Liverpool’s 2005 Champions League win.
The advert shows Jerzy Dudek saving Andriy Shevchenko’s penalty.
It also shows Steven Gerrard lifting the trophy, with absolutely no sign of Chelsea or the Citizens.
Now, you can understand why the Manchester City fans are a bit annoyed at this.
It’s their first ever appearance in the Champions League final, and BT Sport are showing footage of Liverpool to preview it.

However, there might just be an explanation.
In our view, BT Sport collated footage from the last Champions League final in Istanbul, as that’s where the showpiece event was meant to be held this year.
However, due to COVID-19, the final has had to be moved to Portugal.
Despite that, it seems as if BT Sport are still using their original preview for the game, despite the change of location.

At the very least, BT Sport perhaps could’ve shown some of Manchester City and Chelsea’s goals on their journey to the final, before ending the advert with Gerrard’s trophy lift.
Sadly, there is no sign of either finalist.
Let’s see how the Manchester City fans on Twitter reacted to BT Sport’s advert…
