“Pathetic”: Piers Morgan reacts to news coming from Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur have now been called “pathetic” by Piers Morgan after posting an announcement on Twitter.

The spotlight is firmly on Spurs right now after they became the first Premier League side in history to sack an Interim Manager in Cristian Stellini following Sunday’s 6-1 defeat to Newcastle.

Now – after Tottenham made an announcement – Morgan has reacted.

What’s the story?

Well, the 58-year-old was reacting to Tottenham’s decision to refund supporters who travelled up to Tyneside for that humiliating loss against Newcastle.

Morgan tweeted: “This is the most pathetic, embarrassing, cringe-making, pointless load of virtue-signalling old guff I’ve read in 58 years.”

In our view, that is harsh.

Of course, those who buy tickets to a football game are not paying for a win, so they cannot always expect to be reimbursed if they are unhappy with the result.

However, it is important for Tottenham to recognise that what happened on Sunday was not just about the result, but about effort levels – conceding five goals within 20 minutes is utterly unacceptable at any level.

Amid a cost of living crisis, those who spent their hard earned cash on a ticket for Sunday’s game arguably deserve their money back and more.

They would have been well within their rights to boycott the game given how chaotic things are at Tottenham right now, but they made the effort to support their side – unfortunately, that effort was not matched by the players.

Piers Morgan criticism of Tottenham Hotspur backfires

It is interesting to see Morgan criticise Spurs for refunding their fans – especially as that is something he demanded Arsenal do back in 2011.

After the Gunners suffered their famous 8-2 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford, Morgan tweeted: “I think Arsenal’s board should refund the 3000 heroic Gooners who made the trip today, from the £70m kitty they refuse to spend on players.”

So – with these comments in mind – we aren’t quite sure why he now has a vastly different viewpoint on refunding supporters when Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham are concerned.
