Joe Cole has criticised Arsenal CEO Vinai Venkatesham on BT Sports 1 (7:13pm, April 22, 2021) for his comments this evening.
As quoted in The Daily Star, Arsenal CEO Venkatesham has apologised for the club signing up to the European Super League.
The Gunners are among 12 teams who were the Founding Clubs of the European Super League.
However, that project has collapsed, amid pressure from the media, players and the football fans.
The Daily Star has quoted Venkatesham as saying today: “Arsenal were not the authors of this proposal, despite what many think. On this project ‘the train was leaving the station’, we made the decision to join. We made a bad decision, a terrible one.”

Former Chelsea and West Ham United star Cole has slammed the comments from Venkatesham, and believes that it is a pathetic excuse.
Cole said on BT Sports 1 (7:13pm, April 22, 2021): “If a kid says he’s going to do something, you say, ‘Why would do you that?’ ‘My friend does’. ‘So if he told you to jump off, would you do it?’ It’s a pathetic excuse. It shows how out of touch they are.”
What now?
Arsenal have admitted that they made a mistake in setting up the European Super League with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus.
Some Arsenal fans will not be happy at all with the club’s owners and chiefs and will want some action to be taken against those who made the decision to join the European Super League.
It remains to be seen if the 12 clubs get any punishment. It is unlikely that the repercussions will be massive, as UEFA and the respective domestic league all need them.
