Newcastle United striker, Andy Carroll, labelled Fabian Balbuena’s red card during West Ham’s defeat to Chelsea on Saturday as ‘pathetic’.
Sky Sports’ Instagram page posted an image of Balbuena’s red-card challenge on Chelsea defender, Ben Chilwell, at the London Stadium.
They asked readers what they thought of the decision and whether they thought it was a red card – and even though Chelsea were winning the game when the sending off occurred, it did kill the mood for the Hammers going forward.
Carroll, who played for West Ham, issued a simple one-word response in the comments section: ‘pathetic’, whilst ex-Stoke hitman, Jon Walters, also added his thoughts by saying ’embarrassing’.
It’s pretty clear that Chris Kavanagh’s call, which involved VAR, didn’t sit well with supporters as it dented West Ham’s chances of coming back into the game during the last ten minutes.
What’s even more baffling is that Vladimir Coufal made a similar challenge, yet nothing was given, which just angers supporters further.
But what makes it even more worrying is that West Ham have been on the end of an even worse call this season when Tomas Soucek saw red against Fulham.
