Pat Perez appears to have signaled his exit from LIV Golf with a recent social media post showing off a PGA Tour branded cup.

Pat Perez has fuelled speculation that his association with LIV Golf has ended after sharing a New Year social media post featuring a cup branded with the PGA Tour logo. For a player known for speaking his mind, the hint was difficult to ignore.

Despite once being among LIV’s most vocal critics before eventually signing with the league, the 49-year-old competed on the circuit through the end of the 2024 season and later joined its broadcast coverage. Now, however, multiple signs suggest that Perez’s involvement with LIV is firmly in the past.

In December, Perez unexpectedly ran into Brandel Chamblee, a long-time opponent of LIV Golf, and the encounter proved anything but confrontational. Speaking on the Straight Facts Homie podcast, Chamblee revealed that Perez had little interest in defending the league and instead spoke openly about his future plans.

According to Chamblee, Perez explained that he expects to serve a one-year suspension before moving on to compete on the Champions Tour, adding that he is eager to return to PGA Tour-related competition. Chamblee also noted how much he missed Perez’s presence in the sport, praising his personality and willingness to speak candidly — qualities he believes golf lost when several outspoken players departed for LIV.

Most striking, however, was Chamblee’s assessment of Perez’s feelings about LIV itself. He suggested that Perez had few positive memories of the environment and described the league, in Perez’s view, as lacking seriousness and resembling little more than an exhibition.

What Perez’s exit may signal for LIV’s future

Perez’s situation highlights the growing willingness of some LIV players to accept the consequences imposed by the PGA Tour as they seek a return to its ecosystem. While the length of Perez’s suspension may appear severe — particularly given that he has not competed in a LIV event since 2024 — it mirrors the hardline stance the PGA Tour continues to take in order to discourage further defections.

Cases such as Wesley Bryan’s ongoing suspension underline that the policy remains firm, regardless of how much time has passed since a player’s last LIV appearance. Yet the fact that figures like Perez, and even Brooks Koepka, appear prepared to face those penalties as they move away from LIV may prove to be one of the most telling indicators of the league’s current position within professional golf.
