Tottenham Hotspur drew with Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night.
Pat Nevin has told BBC Sport that Tottenham Hotspur do not have a “big advantage” in that two of their next three Champions League games are technically home games.
Tottenham and in particular Hugo Lloris held Bayer Leverkusen to a 0-0 draw in Germany last night as Spurs remain second in Group E.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have four points, one more than Leverkusen and one less than Monaco ahead of their final three group-stage games in this competition.
The Lilywhites welcome CSKA Moscow and Leverkusen to Wembley in two of those games due to the re-development of White Hart Lane, having not played there since Monaco humbled them with a 2-1 victory on the opening match-day of the tournament.
Given what happened that night, Nevin feels that Spurs should be mindful of the fact that they are not home matches per se and has therefore warned them to err on the side of caution before dreaming about the knockout phases.
“Spurs have two games at home and one away to come so they will be thinking ‘we can get to the next stage’,” he told BBC Sport.
“It is an advantage (having games at home) but playing at Wembley, teams want to come and play there. It is not as big an advantage.”
They host Bayer Leverkusen in London on November 2.
