Former Scotland ace says Rangers will not overcome Celtic any time soon.

Former Scotland international Pat Nevin has told BBC Radio 5 Live that Rangers can expect to play second fiddle to Celtic for the next few seasons.

Speaking to 5 Live’s Football Daily show, Nevin explained that the financial advantage Celtic have is too much for Rangers to expect to overcome.

Celtic last night saw their Champions League campaign come to an end without a single win in six matches, but simply participating in the group stages will add to their financial muscle, with ITV reporting it could be worth £30 million.

Nevin said: “It’s hard for Rangers fans, from where you went to and coming back, it’d be extraordinary, weird to expect to be right back on terms with Celtic after one year with all the advantages Celtic have got financially at the moment.

“So I suspect Rangers will be second for the next two to three years.”

Rangers are currently up to second place in the Scottish Premiership despite a few shaky results, but they are eight points behind Celtic who have three games in hand.

Already the title looks a foregone conclusion and the only real chance Rangers have is to win at Ibrox against Celtic on New Years Eve.

They have lost against them twice this season in the league and cup, and a win would take the pressure off manager Mark Warburton, which has been rising despite the financial gap Nevin notes.
