Scottish Premiership champions Celtic appear to have lost Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City with ex-Hibernian boss Neil Lennon heading back to Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers, Manager of Celtic celebrates following the Scottish Cup Final between Motherwell and Celtic at Hampden Park on May 19, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Pat Nevin has admitted that he thought Steve Clarke was a ‘shoe-in’ to replace Brendan Rodgers at Celtic and expects the board to consider David Moyes too, speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT (27 February, 10.30am).

Eyebrows have been raised all across the UK with Rodgers in talks to take over at Leicester City today, despite the fact that there is still three months left in the season and Celtic have two domestic titles to fight for.

According to the Daily Record, however, The Hoops already appear to have chosen his replacement with Neil Lennon set to return to the Parkhead dugout, five years after he walked away. The 47-year-old is currently without a club, having left Hibernian in January, and is in talks with the reigning Scottish Premiership champions.

And Nevin has suggested that he is surprised by reports surrounding Lennon’s return, not because he doesn’t think he’s the right man but because he expected Kilmarnock boss Clarke to be top of Celtic’s wish list.

“I thought Stevie Clarke was a shoe in, he’s done a great job on a limited budget. He’d do a very good job (at Celtic),” said Nevin, a Celtic fan who spent time at the club as a youngster.

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Kilmarnock at Ibrox Stadium on March 17, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“And Neil Lennon, why ever not? I met with Moyes recently, I’m sure he would be considered by the board but I understand the fans aren’t as keen on him.

“Celtic have got great pulling power.”

The Mail reported earlier this week that 55-year-old Moyes would jump at the chance to take over at Celtic but it’s fair to say the supporters didn’t share his enthusiasm. Moyes’ reputation has been left in tatters after dreadful spells at Manchester United and Sunderland.
