Tottenham beat Newcastle 2-0 at the weekend.

Pat Nevin has told Chelsea’s official website that he believes Tottenham Hotspur were fortunate to beat Newcastle.

Nevin says he believes that despite Chelsea’s defeat to Burnley at the weekend, the Blues can go to Wembley and beat Spurs in their next match.

Tottenham scored two late goals to win after Jonjo Shelvey was sent off for the hosts, with Christian Eriksen setting up both.

Nevin says that stopping the Dane is essential to Chelsea’s chances.

He said: “I was at their (Tottenham’s) game against Newcastle and they were flattered by the 2-0 scoreline.

“They were the better team but, like our match the day before, the entire afternoon was changed by a sending off, this time of The Toon’s Jonjo Shelvey.

“Other than that, this is a Spurs team that currently has less dynamism in the full-back areas and not all the top names are firing on all cylinders yet. As ever, stop Christian Eriksen and there is every chance we can get off the mark at Wembley.”

Tottenham have a chance to open an early six point gap over last season’s champions if they can beat the Blues this weekend.

It is also a key early chance for Spurs to register a statement win on their temporary ground for the season.

Shutting down Tottenham’s Eriksen will not be easy, and Chelsea could find that their sale of Nemanja Matic really comes back to bite them.
