Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed one of the greatest nights in their history on Wednesday, as they got the better of Real Madrid at the Wembley Stadium in London.

Madrid are the defending European champions and have one of the strongest teams in the world, but Spurs eased past them, winning 3-1.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were the better team from the first minute to the last, and no one can deny that they deserved to win.

The victory over Madrid shows that Tottenham are a match for any team in the world, and the club’s fans will be optimistic about a successful season.

Former Chelsea and Everton winger Pat Nevin was following the match, and although he was impressed with the display produced by Spurs, he did point out a negative – that of the North London club conceding.

Nevin told BBC Sport (21:38): “I’m slightly disappointed for Spurs that they conceded to be honest because it could have been 4-0!

“This will reverberate around Europe now. This has got to become home for a while and this feels like home for Spurs tonight at Wembley.”

Over the course of the 90 minutes at the Wembley Stadium in London on Wednesday evening, hosts Tottenham had 37% of the possession, took 10 shots of which six were on target, and earned one corner, according to BBC Sport.
