Sunderland were beaten 4-1 by Arsenal at the Stadium of Light in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Pat Nevin has claimed that Sunderland are a Championship team at best following their loss to Arsenal.

The Black Cats hosted Arsene Wenger’s side at the Stadium of Light in Saturday’s early kick-off looking to pick up their first win of the season.

They failed to do so, and instead, two goals apiece from Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud saw the Gunners leave the North East with all three points.

The result leaves Sunderland bottom of the table with just two points to their name from their first 10 games.

A relegation battle is looking extremely likely and Nevin has claimed that they are a Championship team at best.

“Statistically Sunderland have had a terrible start to the season,” he told BBC Sport.

“There’s no anger from the fans anymore, it was just a terrible capitulation.”

“Sunderland have a number of players in that midfield that simply aren’t good enough. They look like a Championship side, at best.”

It remains to be seen if Sunderland can turn around this disastrous start to the season and survive once again.

It is not an unfamiliar situation for the club, with them having been in the bottom three after 10 games in two of their last three seasons.

Each year has seen them avoid relegation with a late survival bid and Black Cats fans must be praying they can do it again this time around.
