Pat Bonner has strongly criticised Celtic central defender Kristoffer Ajer on BBC Sport.
The former Celtic goalkeeper, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport, has said that Ajer does not seem interested in playing for the Hoops.
Bonner made the comments about the 22-year-old Norway international, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, following the Hoops’ defeat to Ross County this afternoon.
Neil Lennon’s side have suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of County in the second round of the Scottish League Cup.
Bonner told BBC Sport: “For me, you’ve got to point the finger at the players. The four players Billy Dodds mentioned [who had ‘chucked it’], you’ve got to include Kristoffer Ajer into that.
“There was talk about him leaving the club and he just looks like he’s not interested. Celtic have put him into that position where teams were looking at him.
“That’s the issue at the moment, a group of players who we were singing the praises of and now they’ve gone so far back it’s incredible.”
Disappointing result
It was a disappointing result and performance from Celtic, as they have the better team on paper.
Ajer did not play well, just like a number of his teammates today, and it will be interesting to see how they bounce back.
The youngster showed some poor passing in the first half and was almost caught out once when he attempted a back-pass. Ajer did not fare much better in the second period and had a game to forget.
Celtic have also failed to progress to the knockout rounds of the Europa League and are as many as 11 points behind leaders and bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table, although the Gers have played two more matches.
