Pat Bonner praises Odsonne Edouard display for Celtic

Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic won against Graeme Murty’s Glasgow Rangers in the Old Firm derby, with Odsonne Edouard scoring twice.

Pat Bonner has told BBC Sport that Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard played well against Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.

Edouard featured for Celtic in the Old Firm derby against Rangers at Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon.

The 20-year-old forward scored twice for the Hoops, as Brendan Rodgers’s side hammered Graeme Murty’s side 5-0.

Former Celtic goalkeeper Bonner, who is one of the greatest players in the history of the Hoops, was pleased with the performance of the former France Under-19 international forward.

Bonner told BBC Sport: “You don’t want the likes of him [Edouard] getting injured if Dembele’s injured, although he’s back in training. But Edouard’s been really good today.”

Permanent Celtic move?

Edouard joined Celtic on a season-long loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old forward has made 19 appearances in the Scottish Premiership for the Hoops this season, scoring six goals and providing two assists in the process, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

According to a report in The Daily Mail in January 2018, Celtic will have to pay PSG a transfer fee of £7 million in order to secure the services of the youngster on a permanent contract.

Given the impact Edouard has made as a substitute, one should not be surprised if Celtic do make his loan deal permanent in the summer.
