Celtic picked up a massive victory on Thursday night.
Celtic looked a long way away from victory at half-time against the Italian side. They were 1-0 down, looking sloppy in possession and stretched defensively.
That continued into the second half, with Lennon having to find answers on the touchline to impact the game.
With 66 minutes gone he brought Tom Rogic into the game for Mohamed Elyounoussi. Later substitutions brought Nir Bitton and Jonny Hayes into the game, who both made their presence felt.
He also switched up the shape of the Hoops team.
At points they lined up in a formation that looked suspiciously like a 3-5-2. It’s not something they’ve used too much this season but allowed them to pressure Lazio and start forcing them to make mistakes.
Bonner made sure not to overlook the switches in his post-match comments, believing the manager’s tactics led to the win.
As quoted by BBC Scotland (24/10 live match page, 22:05), he said: “Celtic couldn’t put two passes together at the start of the second half but they kept going.
“Credit to Neil Lennon he made the changes that turned the game in Celtic’s favour.
“The fans were up for it and it really was a special European night here.”
Lennon has had his critics at Celtic since arriving for his second spell in February, but it’s nights like tonight that show why he should still be considered a fantastic manager.
He’s knitted together a side capable of taking on big teams from France and Italy, putting his own stamp on the matches as much as his players.
