Pat Bonner has suggested to The Herald that goalkeeper Craig Gordon will not leave Celtic in the summer transfer window.

Gordon has lost his place in the Celtic stating lineup to Scott Bain this season, and it is likely that the 27-year-old goalkeeper will retain his place between the posts for the start of the 2019-20 campaign.

According to The Herald, Gordon’s current contract with the Hoops runs until the summer of 2020, and Celtic legend and former Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Bonner does not think that the 36-year-old will look to move on from the Hoops this summer.

Bonner told The Herald about Gordon: “Where is he going to go after this, just to go and play at 36 years old? I think he would probably stay at Celtic and hope to get another chance again.

“I’m sure he is getting half-decent money at Celtic because he signed a new contract a while ago and has another year left. If he was maybe a bit younger and being overlooked, I think he would be looking to get out somewhere.

“But at 36, I think he would be quite happy to have another season here and see where it takes him.”

Celtic stay

Gordon does make mistakes from time to time, but so does every single footballer on the planet.

Bain, though, is much younger than Gordon, and it does make sense for Celtic manager Neil Lennon to make the former Dundee man his first-choice goalkeeper next season.

Gordon, though, remains a very capable goalkeeper who can fill in should Bain suffer an injury or a dip in form.
