Pat Bonner comments on Neil Lennon’s Celtic future

Neil Lennon was appointed the Celtic manager following the departure of Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City.

Pat Bonner has suggested to BBC Sport that Celtic should hand Neil Lennon the managerial role on a permanent basis.

The former Celtic and Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper made the suggestion following the Hoops’ 2-1 victory over Rangers at Celtic Park in the Old Firm derby on Sunday afternoon.

The win against Steven Gerrard’s side means that the Hoops are now as many as 13 points clear of second-placed Rangers and look set to clinch the Scottish Premiership title for the eighth season in a row.

Lennon was appointed as the Celtic manager until the end of the season in February following the departure of Brendan Rodgers to Premier League club Leicester City.

The former Northern Ireland international midfielder was in charge of the Glasgow giants from 2010 until 2014, and won the Scottish league title thrice and the Scottish Cup on to occasions.

Bonner believes that Celtic need not wait until the end of the season to appoint Lennon as their permanent manager.

Bonner told BBC Sport: “Give Neil Lennon the job now. Get on with it.”
