Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic lost in the Scottish Premiership at the weekend.
Celtic suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at the hands of Hearts away from home at Tynecastle Park in Edinburgh in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
The result brought an end to Brendan Rodgers’s side’s stunning 69-game run in domestic football in Scotland.
Celtic legend Bonner has criticised the performance of the Hoops, and believes that they were “absolutely poor”.
The former Celtic and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper has also criticised Bhoys custodian Craig Gordon for conceding a penalty in the 76th minute.
Bonner told BBC Sport (15:25): “It has been an unbelievable run. There have been very few times when you can pick out a Celtic game and say they were absolutely poor.
“Today was one of those days, and the first one for a long, long time. That was not the real Celtic. Their midfield was out-gunned in the first half, they couldn’t get a grip on the ball and they didn’t enjoy the surface.
“But they will definitely come again. They don’t want to be going into the winter break having people on their tail.”
“It’s a big mistake from Craig Gordon,” said Bonner about Gordon (14:07). “He didn’t need to go to ground. I think the ball was going to trickle out of play. it just sums up everything that has been wrong with Celtic today.”
Celtic’s unbeaten run was always going to end at one point, but not many would have seen them get hammered 4-0 away from home.
Gordon’s performance in the match was far from impressive, but the Scotland international goalkeeper was not the only Celtic player who did not have a good game.
It is important that the Hoops bounce back from the defeat and go on another winning run.
