Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic failed to win against Suduva in their Europa League playoff round first-leg tie on Thursday.
Celtic played out a 1-1 draw with Suduva away from home in Lithuania in the first leg of their Europa League playoff tie on Thursday evening.
Olivier Ntcham put the Glasgow giants in the lead after just three minutes, but Ovidijus Verbickas restored parity for the home team only 10 minutes later.
Celtic legend and former Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Bonner was following the match, and he has backed Celtic to progress from the tie.
The 58-year-old, though, was not impressed with the performance of the Hoops on Thursday evening.
Former Celtic star Scott McDonald has also backed Brendan Rodgers’s side to progress from the tie and into the group stage of the Europa League this season.
Bonner told BBC Sport: “Celtic will go through in this tie, no question. This team are not good enough to beat them at Celtic Park.”
The former Celtic goalkeeper added: “This is not the Celtic that I have seen over the last few seasons.
“They don’t have the same attacking intent they had then. They’re just in a little bit of a rut and they need to get out of it.”
McDonald told BBC Sport: “We have seen enough of Suduva to suggest Celtic will dominate proceedings at Celtic Park.”
Second leg confidence
Celtic do have a better team than Suduva, and their away goal on Thursday evening does put them in a very good position to go through.
However, the Glasgow giants should not get complacent, as they could still slip up in the second leg at Celtic Park.
