Ahead of their Premier League meeting with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, Brighton and Hove Albion defender Pascal Gross has given his opinion regarding Spurs’ current poor form and how it could affect the clash on the south coast (official club website).

Mauricio Pochettino’s charges have been far from their best this season as they have drawn two and lost two of their seven league fixtures so far, been knocked out of the League Cup by League Two Colchester United on penalties, and were humiliated at the Tottenham Hotspur Arena by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

In addition, Tottenham have let several leads slip this season, including against Arsenal and away at Olympiacos in their opening Champions League group-stage game – and that’s before getting to the various off-the-pitch rumours of unrest and differences in opinion.

However, Gross dismissed suggestions that Tottenham’s midweek 7-2 Champions League defeat will have any effect on Saturday’s game, and is backing Pochettino’s side to bounce back from that result.

“This game has nothing to do with what will happen on Saturday,” the £9million-rated 28-year-old (Transfermarkt) told the Brighton website. “They were playing in the Champions League against a very good team, and it will be a completely different game against us compared to Bayern Munich.

“It can go one of two ways after a result like that. Your confidence may be low if you’ve been punished in such a way, or you may want the next game to come straight away and forget about the last one. It was a very bad night for them, but they will learn from it.”

Tottenham are winless in nine Premier League away games since beating Fulham in January, last going longer without a win on the road between April and December 2006 (Opta Stats via Sky Sports News).
