Tottenham Hotspur have been strongly linked with Fulham star.

Ryan Sessegnon of Fulham celebrtes victory during the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Sheffield United at Craven Cottage on March 6, 2018 in London, England.

Fulham sensation Ryan Sessegnon has been warned not to join Tottenham Hotspur… by former Spurs defender Pascal Chimbonda.

The former Tottenham right-back has no ill feelings towards his old club, he just feels the step up could be too big for the 17-year-old.

Sessegnon made his debut for Fulham at just 16 last season and he has taken his game to a new level this season, scoring 14 league goals already.

The Telegraph reports that Fulham are likely to look for around £50 million for the youngster, who has been compared to Gareth Bale.

Speaking to Bet Stars, Chimbonda believes if Sessegnon makes the jump to the Premier League, he should move to a mid-ranked club instead of Tottenham, who have aspirations to challenge for the title.

He said: “He’s still young, he’s good for the Championship but there’s a difference between being good in the Championship and arriving in the Premier League.

“If he comes to Spurs he won’t play regularly or may go out on loan, he will only come on sometimes and that’s really hard for the player. I think he needs to go to a team below Spurs, where he will play football.”

How Sessegnon would fare at Tottenham depends on whether they keep Danny Rose.

The wing-back spot in Tottenham’s system appears ideal for Sessegnon’s style of play, but having to compete with Rose and Ben Davies would be far from ideal.

Chimbonda played for Spurs in two spells, between 2006 and 2008 and then in 2009 before being sold to Blackburn, with a stint at Sunderland in between.
