Ex-Gunner Ray Parlour has suggested Tim Sherwood could still be thinking about his team’s attacking performance in the FA Cup final last weekend.
Former Arsenal player Ray Parlour told talkSPORT he feels Tim Sherwood will still be distraught following the FA Cup final defeat at the hands of the Gunners.
Sherwood has had plenty of time to reflect following the 4-0 defeat and Parlour feels there is a specific aspect of the performance that the Villa manager simply won’t be pleased with.
“I think they just sat back a little bit too much and didn’t really believe in themselves – You think it’s a big game and anything can happen but they didn’t let it happen,” he said.
“They didn’t have one shot on target and that’ll be really disappointing for Tim Sherwood, you could see how distraught he was about that at the end of the game.”
A lack of attacking punch will disappoint Sherwood because it’s an area of the team he did well to revitalise when he first linked up with the club.
He created a situation where Villa moved the ball forward quickly, utilising their talented and fast players in midfield to create numerous chances for someone like Christian Benteke to get on the end of.
It’s one of the main reasons Villa turned things around and managed to stay in the Premier League.
Moving forward, Sherwood needs to find a way to keep some positive belief running through the club over the summer.
He’s got a real task on his hands in terms of improving the team so they retain their attacking punch especially if Benteke takes a move to a team playing European football, regardless of the big price that Villa could get out of a deal.
