Manchester United halted a run of three consecutive defeats with a 3-1 in over Northampton Town in the EFL Cup last night.
Ray Parlour
Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour was speaking live on Sky Sports Now this morning at 10:09 am, and explained how Jose Mourinho needs to fit one of either Michael Carrick or Morgan Schneiderlin into his team alongside Marouane Fellaini, in order to release Paul Pogba further up the pitch.
Mourinho has struggled to find a winning formula in recent weeks, as he continues to try and include all of his stars in his line-up at the same time.
Manchester United’s Michael Carrick
Carrick’s absence from the United team has left them bereft of a holding midfielder who can pass the football with aplomb, and his introduction to the starting XI last night would have given his boss something to think about after he scored the Red Devils’ opener and put in a fine display.
Parlour believes that Carrick or Schneiderlin should take Pogba’s place alongside Fellaini, allowing the Frenchman to be utilised further up the pitch, in place of the fatigued Wayne Rooney, and he told Sky Sports:
Manchester United’s Paul Pogba
“I think Rooney’s the big problem at the moment. I think he might not play him at the weekend. I think that either Michael Carrick or Schneiderlin should start alongside Fellaini. Then Pogba could play the number 10 role.”
Mourinho’s men take on Leicester City on Saturday as they look to reassert themselves into the title race.
