Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter in bemusement after hearing talkSPORT make a comparison between Harry Kane and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
TalkSPORT‘s scout, David Connolly, said that the £28 million forward’s link-up play is just as good as the Tottenham No.10’s is.
While the former Brentford attacker has adjusted well to life in the Premier League, that is a weak comparison to make, in our view.
Watkins has scored six goals in ten Premier League games this season, but his link-up play has only seen him record one assist.
In stark, stark comparison, the Tottenham talisman has registered ten assists in 11 Premier League games – he also has eight goals, which isn’t too shabby to say the least.
The Spurs academy graduate is arguably one of the best playmaking strikers in Europe, if not the best.
He has four more assists than Manchester City maestro Kevin De Bruyne, who sits second in the assists charts with six to his name.
Watkins – three years younger than Kane – could well reach his level when he too turns 27.
However, for now, comparisons such as the one talkSPORT made are only going to be met with bemusement.
