West Bromwich Albion had a tough night against Manchester City at the Etihad yesterday.
Baggies boss Alan Pardew addressed the media in the aftermath of his side’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City last night, and admitted that he felt sorry for his players at times during the match at the Etihad, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
West Brom now sit rock-bottom in the Premier League table, four points adrift of safety, and they have a real fight on their hands, if they are to avoid relegation to the Championship this season.
Pardew has undoubtedly made an impact since his appointment at the Hawthorns, but results haven’t necessarily reflected that.
It must be noted, however, that they have had some incredibly tough games since the 56-year-old’s arrival.
The West Brom boss spoke to reporters after the game, and lavished praise upon Pep Guardiola’s side, sharing how he really felt for his players as City toiled with them on the pitch, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail:
“It was a very difficult night for us. We had to work hard, but they were terrific tonight Man City. At times in the game I wanted to give my players a cuddle because I felt sorry for them. As an ex player, that was tough.”
Next up for Pardew’s side is a home game against Southampton, before they face another tough challenge when they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea.
With that in mind, three points against the Saints will be absolutely vital for the Baggies, in their hopes of avoiding the drop this season.
