Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has discussed the club’s interest in Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, as he spoke on Sky Sports News on deadline day.
The Eagles boss has been busy over the last few days, bringing in striker Christian Benteke in a record deal and then agreeing a loan for Chelsea forward Loic Remy – a player he of course knows well from his time at Newcastle United.
But despite those two deals being significant, arguably the signing of England international Wilshere would be an even bigger signing.

Pardew certainly made it clear what he thought of the potential to bring in the 24-year-old, even if he admitted the club were not gambling on his arrival.
“Jack is a player that became available yesterday, so it would be silly not to get involved in that,” he said on Sky Sports News. “Obviously there are a lot of clubs that would like in Jack, and I guess we’re one of them.
“Obviously there’s a lot of clubs that would like Jack, and I guess we’re one of them. But we’ve done so great in this window, it really would be the icing on the cake if we could get him across the line.
“We’ve got other targets that we’re pursuing as well today, so we’re having a look at those as much as we’re looking at Jack. In terms of where we stand, if we didn’t get anyone across the line I’d still be very, very pleased.”

With Bournemouth and Roma also said to be tracking the home-grown Gunners man (Sky Sports), Pardew and chairman Steve Parish are certainly going to have to be at their persuasive best in order to bring Wilshere to Selhurst Park. One thing that will be in Palace’s favour is that moving across London would be the least upheaval for Wilshere and his family.
But as Pardew admitted on air, the Eagles are not just considering Wilshere, and are also looking at other targets before the transfer window shuts later Wednesday evening.
With a difficult start to the Premier League this season, securing just one point after a late equaliser against Bournemouth last weekend, everyone associated with Palace will be hoping these new stars will have a positive impact.
