Alan Pardew once subbed the Leeds United-linked winger Crysencio Summerville at half-time following a mistake.
But Summerville’s response to that particular incident only impressed the former West Ham United, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace manager.
Leeds are currently negotiating with Feyenoord for the teenage Dutchman and hope to reach an agreement this weekend, according to Algemeen Dagblad.
It is claimed that Feyenoord want to sell Summerville, who has been dropped from the first team after refusing to extend his contract.
But Pardew, who was Summerville’s manager at ADO Den Haag last season, provided a more positive insight into the player’s attitude back in January.
“He was very concerned that he made a mistake there,” Pardew told Algemeen Dagblad after cutting short Summerville’s evening, midway through a 4-0 defeat to FC Utrecht. “He was disappointed and angry with himself. I told him to let it go, but he saw from his game that he was unable to do that. That’s why I changed him.”

“He is a very talented player and his reaction says a lot about his willpower. It would have been much worse if he had acted like he didn’t care after that mistake.”
Summerville scored or made five goals in 21 Eredivisie games last season.
As well as Leeds, the Netherlands Under-19 international has been linked with moves to a number of British clubs, including Wolverhampton Wanderers and Glasgow Rangers.
