So, after months and months of speculation, Harry Kane is staying at Tottenham.
Indeed, the England captain took to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon to tell the world that he won’t be leaving north London this summer, and while that is exciting, it will also have a big knock-on effect at Spurs.
It’s fair to say that Tottenham are a different team when Kane is on the pitch, and the fact that he’s staying around makes one reported transfer plan look that much more exciting.
Adama Traore is reportedly one player Spurs are after, having been linked with an initial loan move with an obligation to buy, and while Tottenham fans weren’t all that excited by the prospect of the Spaniard joining, perhaps they now should be.
Statistically, Traore blows hot and cold – his numbers last season weren’t great, but let’s not forget that he was without his partner in crime Raul Jimenez for the majority of last term.
When Traore had Jimenez alongside him he was one of the most dangerous wingers in the league. In 2019/20 he crafted nine assists, most of them for the Mexican.
In fact, that season the pair were the most prolific pairing in the Premier League, making them even more effective than Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane.
Look at what Traore could do when he had Jimenez alongside him, he was ripping up the league, creating plenty of chances for the Mexican to finish, while the Wolves striker was also dropping deep to set Traore up.
With all due respect to Jimenez, he’s not as good as Kane, but both strikers do have a similar style of play in the way they drop deep, use their strength and finish anything inside of the box.
If Traore and Jimenez were able to combine for 10 goals in 2019/20, what could the Spaniard do alongside Kane in a team that is generally of a higher quality? The sky is the limit.
Son and Kane have been a brilliant duo for Spurs in recent years, but it’s not insane to suggest that Traore and Kane could be even scarier.
