Fabio Paratici has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have the potential to become ‘really, really big’ and revealed that is his long-term target in North London.
The former Juventus man became Spurs’ new managing director this past summer.
Part of the Italian supremeo’s job is to recruit players and Paratici oversaw five arrivals at Tottenham during the off-season.
The 49-year-old joined the Lilywhites at a time when you could argue that the club was on the wane.
Not only are Tottenham trophyless since 2008, but they have also been nowhere near Champions League qualification since reaching the final of the competition in 2019, losing to Liverpool.
But with a £1 billion stadium and at least one world-class figure to play in it – Harry Kane – Paratici is adamant that the future is still so very bright in the white half of North London.
He said to the club’s official Twitter channel: “I want to think about the long term, to build something is our target. When I spoke about big picture, it’s this: we have the best infrastructure, amazing fans. We’re in a big city – the best city in Europe I think. We’ve got everything to be really, really big.”
Exciting
It’s this sort of optimism that Tottenham fans love.
A lot of the time, people in Paratici’s role tell the supporters what they want to hear in an effort to make the interview go as smoothly as possible.
But remember, this is a man who spent 11 years at Juve prior to joining the Lilywhites.
When he talks about the long term, you get the sense that he fully intends on sticking around long enough to see whatever plan he has materialise.
Oh, and he also helped the Italian giants secure 19 pieces of silverware during his time in Turin, which adds to the perception that Paratici can help transform Tottenham.
When he talks about a ‘really, really big’ future, he has the experience and CV that makes you believe him.
