Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that a centre-back is Tottenham Hotspur’s priority this summer – and that Jules Kounde may be Fabio Paratici’s first target.
Despite Harry Kane and Son Heung-min scoring over 50 goals between them last season, Tottenham still finished seventh in the Premier League table and failed to end their 13-year trophy drought.
That suggests that Spurs’ main problem is the defence and considering a 32-year-old Toby Alderweireld remains their best centre-back, it doesn’t inspire confidence that the Lilywhites – who still haven’t hired a Jose Mourinho replacement – will be much better next term.
But the good news is that the North Londoners are seemingly interested in signing the Sevilla powerhouse, according to the Italian journalist.
He told Sky Sports News: “I think they’ll have a very transfer window. I think the priority will be a central defender and Kounde of Sevilla could be their first target.”
Club record
Tottenham will have to smash their club-record transfer fee to sign the 22-year-old Frenchman, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea.
At the moment, Tanguy Ndombele at £63 million is Spurs’ most expensive signing of all time.
But according to Eurosport, Kounde has a £69 million release clause with the Spanish club and therefore, it would eclipse the Ndombele deal.
It’s a lot of money, but it’s easy within Tottenham’s resources if they sell Kane who, if Daniel Levy sells, will easily fetch a minimum of nine figures.
