It’s been quite the week for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese attacker has been dragging his teammates, coaches and club’s name through the mud via a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, and now, it looks like his position at Old Trafford is untenable.

Indeed, it really does look as though Ronaldo has played his final game for Manchester United. So, where does Ronaldo go next?

It sounds crazy, but a move to Tottenham Hotspur could be just what the doctor ordered for Ronaldo.

Yes, it sounds like an unrealistic suggestion, but the more you think about it, the more this one makes sense.

Firstly, let’s consider who is in charge of signings at Spurs – Fabio Paratici.

Paratici was the man responsible for signing Ronaldo at Juventus back in 2018, and he even dubbed the Portuguese ace as the ‘signing of the century’ at the time.

Secondly, let’s consider what this Spurs squad needs.

As their injury crisis in recent weeks has shown, they need another attacker. Another attacker would not only give Spurs more depth, but it would cover for the poor form of Richarlison so far this season, while it would also give Conte the option of playing his 3-5-2 system to greater effect with Harry Kane playing in the hole.

As for Ronaldo, what is he looking for? Well, he’s made it clear that he wants Champions League football and Spurs are in the last 16 of that competition right now, and with a kind draw against AC Milan on the horizon, they could make a bit of a run in UEFA’s premier competition.

Of course, it would be remiss to pretend there are no drawbacks around this potential move. Ronaldo is an ageing star who isn’t at the peak of his powers, while he remains one of the highest-paid players on the planet.

However, if Spurs could get him to agree to a role that sees him rotated while playing a key role in the Champions League and get him to come down a level when it comes to his wages, this would be a deal that works well for all parties.

Ronaldo needs a new club and Tottenham may not be the worst possible destination for him.
